A brief history...
Like most reptile enthusiasts, my fascination with reptiles began at a young age. My parents remind me often of how I talked non-stop about dinosaurs through out most of my toddler and elementary years. During these early years, I collected what I could from my back yard in middle Texas. I remember "horned toad" lizards to be my favorite. In my teen years I was finally able to start purchasing and keeping captive bred reptiles. I found this to be an extremely enjoyable and fulfilling experience. The process of learning the captive care needs of a specific species, setting up the proper environment and watching them flourish quickly became something I knew I would enjoy forever.
I remember first seeing Leopard Geckos at a local pet store in the mid 80's. I thought they were extraordinary looking creatures. I don't know why I didn't purchase them on the spot...somehow I ended up with an iguana! I kept iguanas, pythons, and boas for several years while in high school. I dabbled in breeding attempts, but with little success. After high school. I entered the Marine Corps (reserves) while attending college. I took a brief break from reptiles, but it didn't last long! In the mid 90's I decided to start collecting again. I remember reading an article about leopard geckos in Reptiles magazine, after which I got on the phone with Bill Brant and ordered my first trio of "high yellow" Leopard Geckos. That pretty much began it all for me!In 1999 my small leopard gecko hobby began to grow...rapidly! I was amazed at the number emerging morphs and line-bred projects being offered in Leopard Geckos (I had no idea how much more this would grow over the next 10 years!) I began breeding and setting up a successful "home made" web site to start selling some offspring. I chose the name "Bright Albino" for our collection because the brightly colored albino Leopard Gecko morphs were, and still are, my absolute favorite morph. Over the years we've added some amazing geckos to our collection from many top-notch breeders and friends. We've also been able to hatch out some unique and colorful geckos within our own "lines". Our gecko-room has expanded...our web site has expanded...our collection has expanded...in fact, just about everything having to do with our hobby has expanded!
What lies ahead...
Well, not only has my gecko hobby expanded since 1999, but my family has as well. My wife and I are thoroughly immersed in raising our two toddlers (the best "job" I've ever had!), while we each try to maintain our professions. My real profession is serving as a full-time Youth Pastor to a wonderful group of teenagers and their families at our church. This all takes a lot of time and energy, so my gecko hobby has had a slight "down-size"...not in quality, but in quantity. This is a very good thing for us and the geckos.
I'm really enjoying a smaller collection for several reasons. First of all, I'm able to give each and every gecko the proper care and attention they deserve. Second, I'm able to spend more time focusing on which geckos I breed in order to advance our "line-bred" projects as effectively as possible. And finally, I'm able to spend more time updating our site and corresponding with other hobbyists. In the past, I've found myself so immersed in simply feeding and cleaning my collection that I couldn't even stop to enjoy it! A smaller collection simply works better for me right now. As far as the future of the Bright Albino...we will continue to work as hard as we can to produce the most colorful, healthy geckos possible. We should always have some unique projects we're working on ;) ...and hopefully we'll be able to hatch cutting-edge geckos each season. We'll do the best we can to keep the gecko community informed on our progress and provide the best customer service we can.
